MIT

I got my Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, with a focus on robotics and mechatronics. In addition to classes, I spent most of my undergraduate and graduate life working at the MIT Media Lab in Joseph Jacobson's MicroMedia (now Molecular Machines) and Joseph Paradiso's Responsive Environments groups. I also lived at pika, a co-ed cooperative living group where we partook in such activities as cooperative cooking, studying, cleaning, backyard foundry work, metal sculpture building, and occasional all night welding. Some other highlights from my time at MIT:

6.270
In 1998, Holly Gates and I participated in 6.270, the world-renowned MIT Autonomous Robotics Competition. We faced some rough competition, 50 teams of some of MIT's finest, but in the end our robot took first place.

Project ORCA
In the summer of 1998, a group of about 20 engineers started Project ORCA, MIT's autonomous underwater vehicle team. With little or no ocean engineering experience (but with some brains and an abundance of excitement), we created an autonomous submarine to compete in an international AUV contest. We both participated and won first place, and the team has consistently been on top of the competition ever since.
